I have been asking questions along this line for a few years out here & every time was tested like a nondriving nihilist who couldn’t possibly “get” it due to absence of license.
Now houses are being nudged to install Gov’t solar panels (which conceivably will be clocking conversion etc) but will the homes have to pay for the electricity produced by them? Or is that the scifi long game? They charge you to use the sun(liiiiike they charge to drink water) &they can cut off the govt panels for improprieties.
it’s different- my eye on this.
…. Because i can be dahrk , historical and joyful about it… liiiiike “blackouts up in NYC iin the 70s” minded…
But this isn’t nihilism poetically rooted in yesteryear happenings only heard about on the wind, safely tucked away next to flaming rivers in Cleveland.
That acute awareness is woven in due to my volunteer & arthead arc in New Orleans having had occurred in the afterglow of the US govt being put to task for willfully wiping out the wetlands that protected NOLA from the 60 yr cyclic storms (US dept of civil engineers V. New Orleans) the native population / aboriginals in the area were well aware of. This was spearheaded at the behest of tycoons who saw the 9th ward’s ease of access to the downtown sector as a ” corporate hospital laden” paradise they were blocked from capitalizing on by the five & six generation homeowners embedded IN the area that refused paltry requests to vacate the zone for 25+ years.
Maybe my sensitivity to the nowness of this pending clusterfuck is/ was also rooted in being based up in Sausalito in that season where damned near ever other wildfire was was triggered by unkempt power stations pg&e never bothered with fixing. The push to electric cars was louder than the demand to fix the power grids. 2017-2022 was moments ago when blackouts due to wildfires were a coastal summer fall norm, blackouts due to rain through 2023.
Preparing for the worst is one thing, & it’s big business. But so is designing for the worst to easily take center stage.

Lately, it seems like I’m watching that kid with a death wish (because his parents only give a fuck about him when he’s sick or hurt) building a house of cards intent on maximum levels of carnage and destruction because that outpouring of concern keeps his psychopathic lil butt human and is the closest he gets to the sensation of love.
I say all that to say… it’s taken the algorithm years of fussing to send clips of similar sentiments this way.
This musing today springboards offa Anna-Taylor Joy taking about learning to drive for Furiosa , and learning stick.
which was added into my latest lamentations on the matter rather recently.
life where a car is built oldschool GTE style , drives stick and has thisisscifi engine mods designed in to run on water, seed oil and air (since the technology for all is out there in 2021).
