I didn’t see this yet but the fact that 2 of them were obscene bullies to the point of one making an entire family have to move because their target’s life was ruined, and the other locked a kid in a closet and let the community do an entire search party to find the disabled kid she’d willfully harmed…and were sitting around LAUGHING at their little bad behaviors WITH OTHERS, naan a care in the world?
It just… adds a layer of unspoken menace TO the actual reveal that may be the one check they got about the potential for repercussions against the fucked shit some folks laugh off doing.
It sounds like the director got that across without people even recognizing he did.
Imagine a former bully having it revealed the week before his wedding that he was marrying a former bullied who stopped just short of murdering all of her bullies…and decided to go do the work on herself instead. Whatever unspoken power balance seemed at play in the relationship would shift because he’d know… he was someone she’d have shot dead that day. & that she’d chosen that reveal in direct response to him and his friend bragging about having been buckshot to the face teens their earlier lives. That’s a paradigm shift that makes sense of the smack in the trailer that left him terrified.
Many of today’s men couldn’t do it. Marry her in the end. Because another unspoken aspect seemingly demanded of “relationships” these days is men picking marriage partners they can bully.
Fuck… Now I Gotta see it.
